Wedding Wednesday – 4 Tips For Planning Your Menu For Your Martha’s Vineyard Wedding

Happy Wedding Wednesday Washashores! Today, Sandy Brooks (Martha’s Vineyard Wedding Planner and  all around #bossbabe)  and I are discussing my personal favorite…FOOD! I think my favorite part of the whole wedding planning process was the food and cake tasting.

Sandy:

If you are going to have a buffet be sure to have a double sided one. It makes the line go twice as fast so your guests are not left hungry.

When picking out apps make sure they are bite size. Most will have a drink in hand or a purse. You don’t want to make extra work for your guests.

When envisioning your menu take into consideration your location and time of year. For summer you will want a light spring salad where a fall wedding you will want a yummy Autumnal soup.

Another thing to consider is looking in Falmouth and Cape Cod for a Caterer. I can not thank my best friend enough for the suggestion. We have hired Chef Andrew’s Catering out of Falmouth. Not only is his food amazing, we are saving a lot by bringing an off-island chef to Martha’s Vineyard.

That’s it for this week Washashores. Keep coming back for more information regarding all things MVY Living. or sign up for my newsletter to have my blog delivered right to your inbox whenever there is a new post.

Design Your Island Life: Farm Pond Living Room

It’s Moodboard Monday Washashores! I’ve partnered with Vineyard Decorators to bring you a comfortable and affordable living room that’s perfect for your Island lifestyle. The soft colors combined with the textures in this room give a light and airy feeling. This room is part of their “Rooms to Go” collection. This includes a sofa, end table, lamp, rug, coffee table and chair under $5,700!

Recently I was talking with someone during a home inspection and they mentioned that they felt Vineyard Decorators was over priced, and that they don’t care about the locals. Believe me when I say now that they are under new ownership this is the farthest thing from the truth. They have take leaps and bounds to re-brand themselves as well as bring off-island pricing to the vineyard. They have a whole selection that is furniture you find at all the big box stores like Jordan’s and Cardi’s.

Couch: Farm Pond Sofa
Chair: Living Room ChairRug: Coastal Shore Rug
Floor Lamp: Nobadeer Farms Floor Lamp
Coffee Table: Vineyard Decorators Coffee Table
End Table: Vineyard Decorators End Table

After the wedding Mr. MVY Living and I are looking to purchase a home. We’re so happy that Vineyard Decorators does off island price matching. Now we don’t have to worry about the stress of  going off island, trying to pick out everything in one day, and arranging delivery.

That’s it for this week Washashores. Keep coming back for more information regarding all things MVY Living.

Wedding Wednesday – 3 Things to Consider When Venue Hunting

Dreaming of getting married at the perfect spot here on Martha’s Vineyard, only to start touring places and realize there is so much more to consider than you ever anticipated? I took a moment to reach out to Sandy Brooks of Timeless Event Planning and she gave us 3 things to consider when looking a Martha’s Vineyard wedding venues:

When looking at venues be sure to take in all variables. Do you need to rent transportation, porta potties or lighting? All of these vendors will add up so make sure you price everything out before signing anything.

When touring venues be sure to ask what their rain plan is for the wedding. I know that no one likes talking about this but trust me it’s better to know now rather than later.

When booking a venue up island be sure to book some sort of transportation. Uber and Lyft are very limited on the island and you do not want to leave your guests stranded.

Future Mr. MVY Living and I got incredibly lucky with our venue. However reading over the contract one thing we didn’t know about is wedding insurance. Most venues require you to have an event insurance policy (even for the night) should anything happen. This shouldn’t be more than a couple hundred dollars, but you should ask your potential venue what the minimum amount of insurance is required.

Design Your Island Life: The Winnetucket Bedroom

Do you believe in love at first sight Washashores? That’s how I felt when I first saw this bedroom designed by Vineyard Decorators . It makes me feel so relaxed and I don’t even own the furniture LOL.

Similar to last weeks room board, this weeks also highlights performance grade material, meaning that the fabrics of the chair and bed are both made to withstand wear and tear. No need to worry that the bed is white, or that the chair is lighter colors.

Speaking of that fabulous chair, for me it gets extra brownie points because it’s made right here in the USA by the craftspeople and artisans of LEE Industries. They even offer customization should you want to switch things up.

I have a bit of a girl crush on the dresser and night stands. It’s the gold hardware that pushed them over the edge from like to love for me. They are a new brand to Vineyard Decorators this year and I’m looking forward to seeing more pieces from them.

To give this room the added beach feel Vineyard Decorators chose eco-friendly fibers throughout the room. I’m also really enjoying the subtle use of rattan in the lamps and bench.

Bed: Winnetucket Bed
Rug: Natural Fiber Rug
Chair: Lee Performance Chair
Nightstand: Ocean Drive Dresser
Dresser: Ocean Drive Tall Dresser
Lamps: Rattan Lamp
Bench: Woven Rattan Bench
Print: Clouds

Design Your Island Life: An Elevated Nautical Themed Living Room

I love this nautical living room designed by Vineyard Decorators as part of their “rooms to go” collection. These are already curated rooms at off-island pricing available on island! It makes life so much easier for us locals to not have to go off-island, arrange and pay for delivery.

I digress. Let’s talk about this fabulous living room shall we? The art of designing a nautical room is a subtle one. You have to walk a fine line when using nautical elements in a room. Too much and the design becomes comical. Too little and you miss the mark.

The centerpiece of this living room is the Sunbrella couch in Navy Blue. As a real Estate Agent and a proud momma of two dogs, I’m a huge fan of Sunbrella. The material is extremely easy to clean and it resists fading. If you’re looking to redo a rental property here on Martha’s Vineyard I highly suggest furniture (both inside and out) that features Sunbrella fabric.

Another focal point of this room is the Sengekontacket Stripe Rug from Dash & Albert. Again, it’s made of a durable material that can be easily cleaned (and if necessary taken outside and hit with a hose!). This is a perfect example how to do Nautical with a soft touch, instead of in your face. The wide stripes are a fresh twist on the traditional nautical stripes. The pillows on the couch are also by Dash & Albert.

I LOVE these chairs. They are woven in mountain climbing grade rope, so not only are they extremely durable, they are going to retain their weave longer.

All these subtle Nautical elements combine to make an elevated living room, perfect for bringing Martha’s Vineyard into your home.
